Unplug. Write, draw, photograph. Refine.

Visit the Golden Hour Writer/Artist Retreat. Expert editing available.
If you are looking to unplug and kick-start your artistic project, this 16-acre homestead features an inspiring arched cabin for writers, artists and photographers. You’ll enjoy a fully equipped kitchen, office space, and a deck to observe tranquil sunsets and the resident deer herd. This rustic North Central Idaho Airbnb is being rebranded as a writing and art retreat by resident author Jeannette Belliveau, writer of three books with a fourth in progress.

The Golden Hour Writer/Artist Retreat sleeps three, with a ground-floor single bed/daybed and two Teton brand cots in the loft, XXL and regular. It has no TV (but it does have a PC, monitor and WiFi) and can be your quiet haven for focus and creativity. In terms of her own writing production, your host has never lived anywhere as conducive to a Stephen King-level of daily word count! That’s because the setting is serene yet energizing, with occasional visits from elk and eagles.
Choose your focus
For writers, editors, journalists. You can be left in complete privacy, or …
Workshop your writing project over coffee with Jeannette, a writer and editor (link to bio) with decades of experience as a writing partner, creating graphics with the Washington Post, and copy-editing and design at the Baltimore Sun and Alaska Newspapers.

Artists can paint en plein air or ask for a table set up to enjoy the north-facing light in the loft. The retreat is about 25 minutes from River Arts Kamiah.
Photographers can do vistas from Snowhaven to the Clearwater Valley, deer and bird closeups and the irises (in May), or use the Retreat as a jumping-off point for the Lochsa, the Selway, the Elk City Wagon Road, the Lolo Motorway and more.

You’ll be surrounded a rolling hayfield with views of Snowhaven, Cottonwood Butte, Nez Perce and the Clearwater Valley, and the calls of pheasant and redwing blackbirds. Eggs from the friendly laying hens are often available and complementary. Look for the resident deer herd very early and very late, visiting the salt lick to the right of your deck. This serene Airbnb, surrounded by peace and quiet, is perfect for uninterrupted writing.

The Golden Hour is a perfect fit for a standout student, a faculty member needing a reset, or a tiny writing group. You can book one, two or three guests. Nearby Airbnbs offer additional capacity.
Book any time — this is ideal for a solo writer, a spur-of-the moment getaway, a mentor-student trio, a tiny writing group, writing partners, or a small critique group. The Golden Hour can also be a brief stopover if you are en route to Glacier National Park, Portland/Seattle, Boise or the Idaho Panhandle. As an add-on, Jeannette can provide personalized editing and workshopping.

P.S. The name “Golden Hour” was given by one of our guests who was deeply impressed with time around sunset and sunrise when the retreat might be ablaze with rich light. There may be a dusting of snow on Snowhaven, a brilliant magenta sky, or cotton-ball clouds below in the Clearwater Valley mimic the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes.
